San Diego is considered ‘America’s Finest City’ known for near perfect weather and some of the world’s most beautiful beaches. But there is much more to visiting San Diego than beautiful blue skies and soft sandy beaches, although we think that’s enough reason to visit San Diego.

San Diego is also home to a vibrant Downtown Nightlife, great restaurants, year-round events, shopping and amazing museums in Balboa Park.

This urban cultural park is 1,200 acres, making it the largest in the entire country. Balboa Park is home to 17 museums, gardens and the world-renowned San Diego Zoo. Visitors to Balboa Park can enjoy the San Diego Natural History Museum, the San Diego Railroad Museum, the Japanese Friendship Garden and much more. The grounds, including some of the gardens, are open 24-hours a day, but the museum’s hours vary. Balboa Park also houses San Diego’s only IMAX Dome Theater with an amazing 76-foot Dome screen.

If you love watersports and being active, you will find plenty to do in San Diego Bay. Waterskiing, swimming and kayaking are just a few of the most popular choices. Ah, a day at the beach! Spending a day at the beach is one of the more popular San Diego Activities for visitors and residents alike. There are many beaches along the San Diego coast, some offer calm water that is perfect for snorkeling or easy play in the surf.  Other beaches offer a nice set of waves perfect for learning to surf, to taking on the waves as an experienced surfer. The many San Diego beaches provide the backdrop for a variety of watersports and the soft sandy shores that are perfect for the grab-a-book-and-some-sunscreen-and-escape-for-a-day types as well.

The night begins as you step out the front door of our Downtown San Diego Hotel.  The Gaslamp Quarter boasts many exciting Nightclubs that host some of the world’s top DJ’s, Jazz Bars, Sports Bars, Piano Bars, local Brew Pubs and an array of Restaurants. The Gaslamp Quarter, which was first developed in 1867, is on the National Register of Historic Places. Reminders of its long history can be seen in the gas lamps that still line the streets of this 16-block area. So, plan your nights of your visit accordingly.

A breeze off the water keeps the nights cool in this one-of-a-kind music venue set on the edge of the San Diego Bay in Pointe Loma.  Humphrey’s Concerts by the Bay has a 1,400-seat outdoor theater that features musical concerts, comedy shows and other live performances. Attending concerts here has been a popular San Diego Activity since the venue opened in 1982.
