Ah, Fall in San Diego.  The long hot Summer days have started to become shorter, cooler days signaling that Fall is here and we love it!

Fall in San Diego is the time of year when you think of spooky Halloween, visiting Pumpkin Patches, enjoying the many concerts taking place in and around San Diego, driving to Julian for their famous Apple Pie and more.

Apples for apple pie
You can enjoy an afternoon of picking your own apples to enjoy or to make your own Apple pie. Enjoy a cup of homemade hot Apple Cider, or lunch in one of the great restaurants in the area.

A beautiful drive up to Julian has always been a fun, annual outing for many San Diegans.  If you’re visiting from out of town, the town of Julian is a short drive up into the Cuyamaca mountains to this 1870’s Gold Rush town.  The beautiful wooden buildings, clean air, cooler weather, and all the fun activities that bring Julian to life in the Fall.

You can enjoy an afternoon of picking your own apples to enjoy or to make your own Apple pie. Enjoy a cup of homemade hot Apple Cider, or lunch in one of the great restaurants in the area. There are adorable gift shops along the route to Julian and in town, as well as fantastic bakery, Julian Bakery for some amazing homemade bread.  Oh, and we almost forgot; do not go to Julian without picking up an Apple pie, or two!  You will thank us later.

 

Pumpkin Farm in San Diego
Bates Nut Farm features a massive Pumpkin Patch for the kids (let’s be honest, you enjoy this more than your kids) to pick the perfect Pumpkin for a Jack-o-Lantern or for the best Pumpkin Pie.

This is one of our favorite Fall activities in San Diego! Bates Nut Farm is a long-time tradition for many San Diegans and out of town visitors.

Bates Nut Farm is located in beautiful Valley Center where you’ll enjoy all the country charm you can handle. Bates Nut Farm has been in operation since 1921 and has grown since then into a fantastic destination for the kids, families and couples wanting to enjoy the country spirit of Fall and the holidays.

Bates Nut Farm features a massive Pumpkin Patch for the kids (let’s be honest, you enjoy this more than your kids) to pick the perfect Pumpkin for a Jack-o-Lantern or for the best Pumpkin Pie. Other activities and services include Hayrides, Bouncy House, Petting Zoo, Entertainment, Music, country style food and oh yes, the Bates Country Store is loaded with tasty treats that you will not be able to pass up. Choose from a variety of nuts, chocolate covered nuts, candied nuts, amazing chocolates, apple butter, toffee, dried fruits and some of the best fudge you will ever taste.

The season for the Bates Nut Farm Pumpkin Patch starts on September 22nd to October 31, 2019. Parking is $5.00 and the admission is free.  

An upcoming event will be held at Bates Nut Farm, Bates Craft Fair and Pumpkin Festival on October 6th and 7th, 2019, with over 80 vendors.  Great fun!

You’re not scared, are you? Well, if not, you will be. San Diego is a hub for Haunted Houses in Southern California.  San Diego is also home to many reported haunted houses like the famous Whaley House in Old Town San Diego.  But for the more commercial type of Haunted House – San Diego has you covered.  If you like the more confined, haunted house, or hotel, there is something for you on the list.  If you prefer a more ‘open air’ or outdoor venue, you have a couple of options.

The Haunted Hotel is located in Downtown San Diego and is a very popular haunted venue located just blocks from The Keating!  If you would like to experience a variety of Haunted options in one location, consider a visit to The Scream Zone at Del Mar Fairgrounds where you can take Haunted Hayride through a scary corn field and village.  You can also take your chances venturing through one of the other haunted rooms at Del Mar Fairgrounds.  See the Website link above for a complete list of the best Haunted Houses in San Diego.

Come and enjoy a scary encounter with ghoulish characters and fun activities and trick or treat thrills in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter. Walk along 3rd Avenue and enjoy this thrilling event of scariness! Enjoy food, fiends, treats and tricks at Villains in the Village - Saturday, October 19th from 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. 

 

Zombie event in Downtown San Diego
This Haunted event allows you to purchase a wristband and gain access to 10 different nightclubs and bars in the San Diego Gaslamp Quarter.

San Diego Halloween Pub Crawl

Yes please.  This Haunted event allows you to purchase a wristband and gain access to 10 different nightclubs and bars in the San Diego Gaslamp Quarter – just a block from The Keating Hotel. This ghoulish event includes a welcoming shot at select venues and entry to the Halloween Pub Crawl After Party.

Who doesn’t enjoy an afternoon walking through a wonderful Pumpkin Patch in Fall?  San Diego offers a number of fantastic Pumpkin Patches throughout the county to choose from. Come and enjoy picking out the perfect Pumpkin to carve a Jack-o-Lantern, or choose a few Pumpkins to create the freshest, homemade Pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving. Many of the Pumpkin Patches have fun activities for the entire family, music, entertainment, activities and some offer food.  Remember to take lots of photos, these are the pictures you will look back on fondly years from now!
